In a recent conversation with EVWire, Zenergize Co-Founder & CEO Navneet Daga shared a grounded perspective on India’s fast-growing but still evolving EV charging ecosystem.
While EV adoption and charger deployments are accelerating, the ecosystem continues to face structural gaps, particularly in reliability, localization, and distribution.
Navneet points out that many chargers currently deployed in India are not designed for local operating conditions. As a result, they often struggle under high temperatures, grid instability, and heavy usage cycles, leading to inconsistent performance and reduced uptime.
Another key concern is the sector’s reliance on imported or adapted technologies. This limits long-term reliability, slows serviceability, and reduces control over system performance. According to Navneet, EV charging must be treated as core infrastructure, requiring solutions that are engineered specifically for Indian conditions.
Looking ahead, the next phase of growth will be defined by indigenous hardware, advanced power electronics, and software-driven monitoring systems. More importantly, the focus must shift from installation numbers to actual uptime and network reliability.
India’s EV journey is now moving from building more chargers to building better ones. As Daga highlights, the real transition will come from India-first innovation, ensuring charging networks are not just widespread, but also reliable, scalable, and future-ready.
